Public Awareness Committee Purpose
Chair:
- Voted on by Public Awareness Committee membership
- Serves 1 yr. term
- Also serves on the CAN Executive Committee
- Committee may decide to have Co-chairs
Membership:
- Public Information Officers from the CAN Partners
- Other CAN members or community members with interest and expertise in marketing
Term for Members:
Recommended 2 yr. minimum (allowing for consistency)
Meeting Frequency:
Third Tuesday of each month from 2:00-3:30pm currently at the United way capital Area (exceptions will be noted)
Annual CAN Retreat – The CAN retreat is held on a Friday in October. CAN
Public Awareness Committee Members are encouraged to attend.
Function:
- Develop annual marketing plan based on CAN Goals
- Identify marketing strategies for the Community Action Network
- Determine the best way to market CAN products
- Identify ways in which the CAN organization can implement agreed upon marketing strategies and/ or leverage resources
- Ensure consistency in CAN marketing materials
- Identify opportunities to distribute CAN products
- Identify other community opportunities that can “tie in” with CAN data
- Create media releases and press conferences
- Oversee and coordinate media opportunities, including Travis County television
- Build and maintain media contacts
- Compile results of media attention and outreach into an annual report
Member Responsibilities:
- Keep their own organization informed of CAN activities and information
- Attend monthly meetings and the CAN retreat
- Share CAN information with media and community groups, when appropriate
- Participate in creation of media materials and press conferences, when possible
