Austin Groups for the Elderly - Austin Groups for the Elderly provides adult day care in Elderhaven, computer training in our SeniorNet lab, information and assistance through our Caregiver Resouce Center, and a home to fellow not for profits in the AGE building. Capitol Area Metro - Capital Metro provides bus service on flexible, convenient schedules at more than 3,000 bus stops throughout the Capital area, providing riders with an average of 130,000 one-way trips each day. Capital Metro’s fixed route bus service includes 66 metro and flyer routes, seven downtown circulator ’Dillo routes, seven express routes and 22 University of Texas shuttle routes. Capital Metro also offers 30 school routes, vanpool and carpool coordination, shuttles to special events and special transit services for the disabled. Plans are underway to begin rapid bus service in 2006 - 2007 and urban commuter rail service between Leander and downtown in early 2008. |

Faith in Action Caregivers – Faith in Action Caregivers offers services to help older adults maintain and improve their quality of life. With the assistance of volunteer caregivers, clients can maximize their ability to meet their own needs and to continue to live independently. Faith in Action provides transportation to medical appointments, personal business and shopping; information and referrals; errand-running for prescriptions and emergency items; handyman services; and a durable medical equipment loan closet. |

Meals on Wheels and More - Meals on Wheels and More was founded in 1972 as a non-profit charitable corporation created to assist elderly and homebound people in need. Volunteers deliver hot, nutritious lunchtime meals each weekday to homebound people who can no longer prepare balanced meals for themselves. Care Managers assist clients with other life-enriching programs and services that promote independent living, including home safety repairs, grocery shopping assistance, rides to the doctor, and other services. Retired and Senior Volunteer Program - The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program meets community needs by recruiting and placing older adults in volunteer positions at local nonprofit and public agencies. Travis County Health and Human Services and Veterans Services -
provides a variety of programs and services to Travis County residents. We can help older adults and their families:
- Obtain basic needs emergency assistance (rent/mortgage, utilities, food vouchers, groceries, indigent burials, transportation, prescriptions, clothes and blankets) through the Family Support Services Division. (Travis County residents over 60 years of age are considered a priority population for FSS Division services.)
- Find volunteer opportunities through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
- Obtain federal veteran’s benefits to which they are are entitled. with assistance from the County’s Veterans Service Office.
