HEALTH

St. David’s Foundation, a CAN partner, recently published the Care that Pays for Itself: Reducing the Amount of Uncompensated Care and Improving Health in Central Texas report with findings on emergency room visits. At a presentation to the CAN Resource Council on June 8, 2007, St. David’s Foundation asked partners to support efforts to better address access to primary care, mental health services and specialty care in Central Texas.

AGING

Aging Services Council of Central Texas invited representatives of the Austin Fire Department Public Education Office to their June 2007 meeting to find out more about a program that provides a free smoke alarm to the elderly regardless of income. Requirements are that the resident owns and resides in the home, that the home does not currently have a smoke alarm or it is more than 10 years old.
